Angels on the Interstate

By Roberta Sarver

As a family who experienced rescue by angels, we readily can say God's messengers are real.

One incident in particular stands out in my memory. It happened during rush-hour traffic on busy Interstate 80.

We were driving our large family from Pennsylvania to Ohio in a minivan. Unfortunately, we left during rush hour on a Friday afternoon. Motorists swished past, impatiently hurrying home from work. Families in motorhomes sped by. Tractor trailers roared past, shaking our van in their wake.

My husband concentrated on keeping up with the flow of traffic when we heard a strange noise. One look in rearview mirrors confirmed our dread. Our rear axle and one attached tire flew off and bounced down the highway behind us.

Normally a vehicle swerves crazily without back brakes, especially at high rates of speed. To our amazement, my husband slowed down, gently glided the van to the side of the highway and stopped. It was as if he had complete control.

Only this time, someone else had complete control.

It had to be angels—one or more-- guiding our vehicle off the road onto a grassy place beside the highway.

I looked back to see which of our children was sitting in the back, left corner—sure that they would be crushed by a motorhome or tractor-trailer coming up fast behind us. I wanted to get one last look before a horrible accident occurred. Due to intervention by God’s messengers, the accident never happened.

Even more amazing was the final destination of the axle and attached tire. Vehicles swerved and dodged. The whole apparatus bounced crazily, then stopped several yards away, exactly on the center line between two lanes of traffic.

Scrambling out of the car, we stared open-mouthed as my husband ran back, quickly rolled the axle and attached tire off the road and returned to us without being hit by rush-hour traffic.

Does God still do miracles? The mechanic who towed our car told us we shouldn’t have lived through that incident. Angels are real. We are living proof.

What about you? Any experiences being rescued by God's messengers? Tell us about it below.
